Family Fun at OMCA

Five ways visitors of all ages can enjoy the Museum this fall

Get Lost in a Rainbow

Nature’s Gift: Humans, Friends & the Unknown, an installation by the artists’ collaborative known as FriendsWithYou, provides a unique experience for the entire family in a light-filled, immersive, and playful setting. Bring the whole family and discover OMCA’s Great Hall, transformed into a multidimensional experience of rainbows and delight. Be the first to experience it at our Member preview and party on Friday, October 6!

Help a Scientist

In OMCA’s Gallery of California Natural Sciences, anyone can contribute to science research. The newly installed Citizen Science vending machine is stocked with experiment kits to purchase and do at home, and some useful tools to observe and document the world around you. Whether you’re curious about your cat’s secret life or interested in ants, pick your favorite kit, collect some data, and send it to a scientist to inform their research!

Dive into California’s Rich History, Past and Present

From the Spanish settlers to the Gold Rush, California’s history is full of amazing stories. Bring the kids to OMCA’s Gallery of California History to view important artifacts and educate them about the state. Don’t miss the “History Now” section, an experimental space responding to current events. Learn about the history that is happening every day and your role in shaping it. This fall, dive into the topic of “Fake News,” prompting visitors to think about where they get their news.

Dance Lessons at Friday Nights @ OMCA

Everyone knows Oakland’s hottest party is Friday Nights @ OMCA. The best part? Youngsters and adults alike can get in on the fun. OMCA’s Go Local stage comes alive each week with live music, DJs, and free dance lessons. (Plus, you’ve never seen a more happening toddler dance party.) From salsa and samba to reggae and Afro-Cuban, get ready to bring your A game to the dance floor. Dance instruction is from 6:30–7 pm in the 10th Street Amphitheater.

Play in the Gardens

Enjoy the prime fall weather in OMCA’s Gardens, which are free and open to the public during Museum hours. At Friday Nights @ OMCA, bring a picnic, play games, check out Books + Blankets, and enjoy the lush greenery with your kids.
